HAND MADE WITH LOVE

Crooss Stitches

Each one of our pillows is totally hand-embroidered. The indigenous artisans that collaborate with us give life to admirable art-craft pieces. For this reason, the price of each pillow depends on how many CROSS-STITCHES it took to be made. We find it very important to appreciate the quantity of hours involved in the making of these pieces, and the dedication that the artisans bring to each and every one of them. Due to its hand-made nature, it is possible that two pillows of the same type may vary slightly. However, they are all beautiful and worthy of admiration. We invite you to take a look at our pillows, and to notice in each of them the number of cross-stitches and time it took for each of them to be made.

Indigenous Artisans

We are currently collaborating with artisans from the “Otomí” and “Huichol” indigenous group. Before they joined our company, they were not pursuing their craftsmanship skills for the lack of a fair remuneration to their work. It was shocking for us that hands that have the ability to create such beautiful pieces of art-craft, were wasting their talent because they could not find how to make a living out of it. The designs they made, were passed down from generation to generation, but that “cultural inheritance” had stopped because they did not see the point in teaching their children this. We love the effort they give to each piece, and the pride with which they exhibit them when they are finally finished with one. They each sign a card that goes with every pillow they make, for it is only fair that their effort can be recognized by the person that gets to buy that pillow. We (the artisans included) love our job!and “Huichol” indigenous groups.

We fill spaces with happiness and color by integrating art, originality and luxury.

About Mari Mari

Mexican indigenous people are losing their cultural inheritance of embroidery, for it is not well paid for and they must work in other fields, thus not teaching new generations this wonderful tradition. It is truly sad to see how marvelous artisans are wasting their talent working in other random activities that barely sustain their basic needs.

Facing this reality we decided to create a Socially Conscious company that was committed to “Fair Trade”. A company that would allow artisans to preserve their tradition, while earning a rightful remuneration. A company that gives them access to a better quality of life. That company is Marí-Marí, welcome to our World. Through this web page we want to show you the results of our collaboration with Mexican indigenous artisans, and how we get to transform their embroidery into exquisite decorative pillows.

We have a great focus on design. We want our clients to buy our products because they are worthy of admiring and of being exhibited at their homes, and the fact that they are helping out indigenous communities is a lovely bonus to an amazing piece of decoration. We want our pieces to make your spaces, happier ones.

Proudly, The Marí - Marí Team.

We were selected by the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women to be part of their Mentoring Women in Business Programme.
